Legacy Play Village - Entry Pavillions

Location: Lubbock, Texas

Client: Lubbock Community

Project Completion: 2002

Project Size: 2,000 Affected SF

Total Budget: $80,000

Chapman Harvey Architects, Inc. provided design services for two entry pavilions at the Legacy Play Village.  The program for the pavilions included an office, vending area, covered seating, and public toilet rooms. Using elements from the community designed and built play structures, the pavilions take on a whimsical carousel-like feel with exposed structural spokes.

Accessibility was a key issue in the design of the entry pavilions, and CHA’s knowledge of accessibility rules and regulations contributed to a successful design. The design of the pavilions also had to achieve a high safety standard.  Details were configured to ensure child safety.

Perhaps the most important aspect of the Legacy Play Village pavilion designs is that it was a gift to the community.  We felt honored to be a part of such a remarkable community effort.  The amount of community involvement in the Legacy Play Village was touching, and our involvement in the project was an opportunity for us to demonstrate the value of giving back to the communities in which we live. We were pleased to do our part in this effort.
